Bluffing with false memories using this device is just as hard to detect as bluffing normally is; if one of the creatures is asleep, the other one can attempt to implant false memories or alter real memories by Bluffing with a -2 penalty, but the sleeping creature gets to make an automatic insight check to detect this, become conscious, and reject all future attempted implantations by that character.
