Sacrifice

Some spells or other effects require Sacrifice Energy. This may either be provided as a Personal Sacrifice, or spent from Sacrifice Energy which hasn't been spent yet. If an effect wants Sacrifice Energy to be spent for multiple reasons, all of those costs are added together.

When Sacrifice Energy is gained, the gained amount replaces (not adds to) the current amount if it is higher. At the end of a character's turn, if that character did not gain any Sacrifice Energy since the beginning of their previous turn, their Sacrifice Energy is lost.

Personal Sacrifice

When something requires Sacrifice Energy, you may generate and spend it from a Personal Sacrifice on the spot. Choose how much Sacrifice Energy you would like, then roll 1d6 and consult the following table for the result. No matter what you roll, you gain the Sacrifice Energy and spend it on the effect before the sacrifice impedes you. You cannot choose to gain more Sacrifice Energy than twice your maximum HP in this way.

Personal Sacrifice

Roll (d6) Type of Sacrifice Experienced
1-2 Take 1d6+1 damage, +2 for each point of Sacrifice Energy desired beyond the first.
3 You and all creatures and objects within a number of meters equal to the Sacrifice Energy squared are chilled for 2 rounds.
4 Each round, starting immediately, until you successfully save, you must make a Will save with a DC equal to the amount of Sacrifice Energy plus 3 or be stunned for 1 round.
5 Take a wound, and another wound for every two points of Sacrifice Energy desired beyond the first.
6 An Avatar of you is projected into the astral realm, arriving in the closest open space corresponding to your location in the mortal realm, and cannot leave the astral realm by any means for 1 round per point of Sacrifice Energy.

Pacts

Some Angels can form Pacts with non-Angel creatures to grant those creatures a special power in exchange for a promise to follow some command about their conduct. Forming a pact takes a round of conversation for both the Angel and the other creature, as the Angel says the words of the pact and the other creature repeats them within hearing distance.

Breaking the Pact: Each Pact comes with a penalty for breaking it, usually a Personal Sacrifice that the breaker must suffer immediately without getting any Sacrifice Energy in reward. The non-Angel breaks a pact instantly when it disobeys the conduct laid out for it. The Angel breaks a Pact by concentrating for 1 round and suffering the consequences, which warns the non-Angel that the Pact will end in 1 hour. If an Angel has broken its Pact, there's still time for the creature to break the Pact as well.
